Nutritional Counseling

Proper nutrition is one of the cornerstones of good health. Medical science has proved that, in addition to a well-balanced diet, nutritional supplementation can help to maximize your daily energy cycle. The nutritional supplements can be either oral, parenteral or injected, or administered intravenously.

Depending on your dietary goals and your energy cycle needs, supplements serve to support the basic nutritional building blocks for your overall health. Supplements can be categorized into the following:

  • Amino acids
  • Essential fatty acids
  • Vitamins
  • Minerals
  • Antioxidants

Supplements work best in combinations that are specific to the patient’s metabolic and physiological state. Whether it is for weight reduction, physical fitness, or for acute or chronic medical conditions, after a comprehensive evaluation, a determination will be made as to which combination of oral or intravenous supplementation will help to maximize your energy cycle.

Many health care problems may be correlated, including heart disease and cancer, may be the result of poor nutrition. During each of the 6-step education sessions, the patient will be encouraged to share their understanding of the information they have been provided, as well as their progress. The nutritional counseling, provided by Dr. Crescenzo, can be tailored to meet the specific needs of patients with a comprehensive nutritional program designed to increase energy levels, improve general well-being, and reduce the risk of cancer. This comprehensive holistic program is not a substitute for the medical care provided by the patient’s primary care specialist or other specialists. In fact, a complete medical evaluation by either the patient’s primary care specialist or appropriate specialist must be done prior to the patient’s participation in this nutritional counseling program.

Dr. Crescenzo has developed a program that integrates the following components:

Evaluating the current nutritional status of the patient

Evaluating the current nutritional status of the patient This initial evaluation will provide Dr. Crescenzo with information about the current status of the patient. With this information, we can then determine the framework upon which we can build a program individualized to the patient’s medical condition and goals. A metabolic or hormonal evaluation will also be conducted as these factors influence the patient’s physiology and ability to lose weight. This helps to determine and define the role vitamins and mineral and herbal nutritional supplements play in attaining the patient’s goals.

Developing good dietary habits and food choices

The program reviews the patient’s eating habits, food choices, cravings, and as well as specific nutritional requirements. This will include a metabolic and hormonal evaluation as these factors can affect the patient's physiology and ability to lose weight. This will also help to determine the role vitamins, minerals, nutritional supplements, and herbal supplements may have on the health of the patient. In addition, the patient will be asked to keep a nutritional journal.

Evaluating the patient’s fitness levels and capacity for exercise

There is evidence that exercise has a significant role in helping to combat many medical conditions. After evaluating the patient’s fitness levels, guidelines will be set up for an exercise program that is designed to complement the patient’s lifestyle and nutritional goals.

Evaluating the patient’s current lifestyle

Using our ability to make decisions on a daily basis is an integral part of the well-balanced use of energy. Sleep and periods of rest are essential in the recovery of our body’s energy cycle. Emotional well-being is an important cornerstone in maintaining an integrated lifestyle.
